Today, Blizzard revealed the release date for Dragonflight, the next expansion for World of Warcraft. But how likely are they to make it in time for this surprising WoW Dragonflight release date? Let’s dive in a little deeper.
This comes as a bit of a surprise. In November 2020, the most recent addition, Shadowlands, debuted. A two-year gap between expansions is pretty much the standard for World of Warcraft since 2008. But it is surprising to hear this announcement when the game is in the sorry state that it’s in.
The ninth WoW expansion is called Dragonflight. The new Evoker class and the dragon-like Dracthyr race are the hottest new additions to the WoW lineup. After Shadowlands, which dissatisfied many players with its excess of systems and illogical story strands, Dragonflight has some work to do to repair World of Warcraft’s image.
Many strongly believe that this is too early to launch after the massive blunder that was Shadowlands. This is on top of the player’s dissatisfaction with how Blizzard is handling certain in-game issues.
Another confusing element in this mix is the fact that Wrath of The Lich King for World of Warcraft Classic is also being released this year. Blizzard is effectively splitting their own fanbase and forcing whether they want to commit to Classic or Live WoW.
Microsoft is in the middle of acquiring Blizzard and its parent company, Activision. Many are wondering how this will affect the development of Blizzard and Activision products. But equally many wonder if the acquisition is ever going to happen with the conduct of the company.
Regardless, WoW Dragonflight is set for December 31, 2022 release date.
In other news:
thought it was wrath of the lich king not BC that was being released at the same time
You are 100% right! I will edit the post now.
